Mission Statement - The Ranch of Hope seeks to provide individuals, families and marriages counseling, skills and training necessary for the relationship to remain intact peacefully and joyfully while remaining in harmony with the community. The Ranch of Hope Impact statement and supporting research of maintaining healthy families in community: The Ranch of Hope is concerned, according to the current divorce statistics, that 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. “Children of divorced parents are prone to divorcing four times more than the children of couples who are not divorced.” www.About Divorce.org The children of these divorces often live in poverty and require governmental assistance. Fifty-five percent of children who live in single-parent, mother-only families are poor compared with only 10% of children from two parent families. David Wood: (2003) “Effect of child and family poverty on child health in the United States”. Pediatrics v 112 Retrieved from The Family in America, April 2004 Single mothers are nine times more likely to live in deep poverty than the married family, with incomes less than half of the official poverty line.”David J Eggebeen and Daniel Lichter, “Race, Family Structure, and Changing Poverty among American Children” American Sociological Review 56 (December 1991), cited on page 31 of The Abolition of Marriage, by Maggie Gallagher “According to the Census Bureau, children whose parents divorce are almost twice as likely to drop into poverty as they were before the marital split.” “90 percent of children of unwed mothers end up on welfare.” Eberstadt, “Infant-Mortality,” page 42 The divorce rate in America after the first marriage is 41-50%; the US divorce rate after second marriage is from 60-67%; after 3 marriages the US divorce rate is from 73-74%. According to a BBC News online “…the key to long lasting marital bliss: skills and realism” Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. “Half of all children will witness the breakup of a parent’s marriage. Of these, close to half will also see the breakup of a parent’s second marriage.” Furstenberg, Peterson, Nord and Zill,” Life Course,”656ff. Studies show that learning communication and problem -solving skills can decrease the chance of divorce. Studies also show that many families in marital crisis are also in financial difficulty. The Ranch of Hope governance of costs: The Ranch of Hope was founded to teach and train individuals, marriages and families how to overcome obstacles to encourage health. Scholarships are provided through donations to cover most of the cost. The Ranch of Hope has established its costs at 1/3 of the national average to encourage and facilitate serving those who most need our services. Even at this low, subsidized rate the Ranch of Hope benevolently donates over 25% of their services. The Board of Directors establishes this low rate on an annual basis considering the economic health and ongoing success of the operations of the Ranch of Hope. Our subsidized scholarship program builds self esteem in to our clients while creating a revenue stream for continued expansion of our counseling model. Recognizing that many divorces occur because of financial stress, making funds less available for counseling, the Ranch of Hope seeks to obtain financially subsidized scholarships to the family, marriage or individual for the intensive 5-day counseling stay. Donor’s finances are utilized to offer this 1/3 rate scholarship and cover administrative costs to enable us to continue to accept more clients into our program. Ranch of Hope basic programming: The program consists of five days of counseling and training. Fifteen hours of private counseling as well as “Tools for Success and Life Application”; as needed. The Ranch also seeks to successfully engage the individual, marriage or family in “playing” together, enjoying each other and recognizing the needs of each member, in addition to fulfilling each member’s needs.
